5-Day
Certified Knowledge Manager Programme
(Theme I, II, III & IV)
|
The increasing importance of the concepts and practices from
the field of KM is evident as Malaysia moves rapidly into a knowledge-based
economy. KM is an enterprise-wide strategic initiative, a multidisciplinary
and cross-functional effort to improve organisational performance in the
Knowledge Age. KM focuses on maximizing an organization’s intellectual assets
for business excellence, whether government or private enterprise.
KM draws on proven principles, practices and technologies from
a wide spectrum of disciplines including: information systems management,
change management, organisational learning, employee training and
development, learning theory and technology, expert systems, strategic
planning and project management, to name just a few. KM is not IT or about
information; but, KM does stand on the shoulders of the successful
Information Age we all know. Due to the complexity of KM and
comprehensiveness of this blended KM Certification Program, KM expert Douglas
Weidner, Chairman of the International KM Institute (IKMI) will personally
lead this small group sized program, so as to best prepare you for your KM
certification designation. The program will include both pre-requisite,
self-paced, video e-learning and the five-day workshop.
This blended eCKM™ program is the ideal solution for success
amongst managers and leaders of KM projects. It equips you with practical,
expert advice and KM Principles on how to strategize, plan and manage your
organization’s information and knowledge assets to improve its competitive
edge if private enterprise, or its overall organizational performance, if
government.
Successful
completion of this advanced program will award you double certification, by
both MIM and the KM Institute, as a Certified Knowledge Manager.

Programme Outline
Theme I – Advanced KM Essentials/Rationale Programme
This initial Theme I of the eCKM
Workshop focuses on mastery of critical KM essentials for manager and staff
practitioners who will lead KM Initiatives. It provides a rich understanding
of KM – what it is, where it’s headed – especially its rationale – and only
the most practical KM theory necessary for success. Attendees gain an
historical perspective on knowledge, both tacit and explicit, and perform
instructional “Hands On” exercises to better understand knowledge processes,
the new knowledge paradigm, and the KM Endgame “Connect & Collect”. Theme
I is comprised of 12 modules, some are studied prior to class
|
Theme II – Create/Study KM Body of Knowledge (KM Methodology)
Theme II focuses on creating and
studying the KM Body of Knowledge Methodology, which is essential knowledge
for managers and staff practitioners responsible for leading and implementing
KM as a strategic, enterprise wide initiative. It provides an overview and
understanding of the proven KM Methodology derived from widely validated U.S.
Government methodology research. Attendees gain an in-depth understanding of
strategic methodologies, such as strategic and change management
implications.
They evaluate and compare this methodology
to other popular published methodologies to gain confidence in its
comprehensiveness and applicability. Attendees perform instructional
"Hand On" exercises to better understand critical methodology
components prior to implementation. Theme II is comprised of ten modules.
Theme III – Perform KM
Theme III focuses on How to Perform KM -
Students track through the methodology for performance of KM as a strategic
initiative, including mastery of additional essentials, especially change
management and benchmarking. The workshop studies how to perform a knowledge
audit including innovative ways to do knowledge mapping, creating a KM
vision, and strategy formulation and justification. Theme III is comprised of
14 modules, some not covered in class due to time constraints are available
as part of the joint MIM-IKMI life-long learning program
Theme IV – Special Topics
Theme IV is part of the joint MIM-IKMI
Life-Long Learning Program provided to the CKM Alumni Association. Special KM
Hot Topics are surveyed in class depending on time available and student
preferences. Metrics, Social Network Analysis, KM Technology, Disruptive
Technologies, Communities of Practice (CoPs), "Personal KM", and
the newest generation of Expert Systems (Learning Agents) are typically
